Castle Constructor Alpha 1.6 Release


Alpha 1.6 has been released. It brings a lot of great changes to the game and brings it a good step closer to what we want for the game. The biggest change in this update is the way the enemies work. Rather than acting as individuals the enemies will now come in formation and stay in formation as they head for the center of the map. The pathfinding has been greatly improved with a new system and changes have been made to make sure enemies aren't getting stuck out of range and preventing the player from being able to win the level. Another big change is that the enemies no longer stand around at your flag until you run out of health. Instead enemies will now enter a new tower placed at the center of each map and will deal a flat amount of damage to it before disappearing.

There have been a number of other improvements and fixes which are listed below.

  • Improved pathfinding
  • Added 3 new levels
  • Changed levels to be centered around a single tile instead of around 4 tiles
  • Reduced the number of spots enemies come in from on each level from 12 -> 6
  • Added flags to the spots where enemies come in from
  • Added paths that show the approximate route enemies will take to your flag. These are still a work in progress and will be improved in the future, both the look and the accuracy.
  • Enemies try to stay in formation and the whole formation moves at the speed of the slowest unit. Units that fall behind speed up and try to get back into position.
  • Enemies that get too far away from their formation break away from it and continue on their own.
  • If an enemy gets stuck somewhere it will be moved around to a nearby point and try to re-path to the center again. The enemy will also take damage so that if it does not manage to get unstuck it will eventually die.
  • When you place a section if there are more of that section left it is now kept selected so you can keep placing more.
  • Decreased the size of enemies to about 75% of before.
  • Update the look of the archers to be based on half-timbered buildings. This will likely be improved later.
  • Improved the look of the water.
  • Fixed waterfalls not lining up with the water tiles.
  • Added the survey button to the end of levels.
  • Removed cheval-de-frise cards. These will likely be added back in the future when we have changed how they work.
  • The battlements section is now less accurate so its not over-powered.
  • The archer and keep sections have been made more accurate.
  • Enemies are stunned a little longer between attacks.
  • Adjusted the calculation for leading shots so that it is more accurate.
  • Fixed an issue with arrows getting stuck in a section immediately upon being fired.
  • Added stone walls and archers to the list of cards that can show up in the new card selection.
  • Added a temporary ending the the game. Telling the player that the game has ended and giving them and option to start a new game.
  • Added two new levels and made adjustments to several of the levels.
  • Sections have a sound effect on placement. Eventually all sections will have a unique sound but for now only stone walls, archers, battlements, and caltrops have a unique sound.
  • Updated sound effects for arrows, enemies getting hit, and wave start. 
  • Many sounds are now 3d sounds and fall off as you move further from their source.
  • Caltrops health was too high and has been reduced to 10.
  • Fixed several UI issues.
